Team Leader

Graduated in Management of Marine Equipment and Systems at the Nautical Technical Institute of Ortona, he attended the B.Sc. in Physics at the University of Pavia and nowadays attends the M.Sc. in Engineering. Passionate about Space Architecture, he has been a member of the Team since March 2023. Actually working part time as an “alien hunter” at Berkeley SETI, he has also sailed for 2 weeks on board Vespucci training sailship. Besides his effort in the Team, he is a tutor in the University of Pavia.

Logistics Specialist

Graduated as Mechanics Expert at the Bernocchi Technical Institute in Legnano, he’s actually attending a B.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Pavia in cooperation with UniMI and UniMiB. Starting sailing in childhood, he’s currently racing in Northern Italy on Melges 32. After he found out the Team in March 2022, he’s now covering the position of Materials Specialist, supervising the choice of the fabrication processes that lead to the assembly of Svelta and the next generation foiling Moth of the UniPV Sailing Team.

Vittoria Salerno

Communications Specialist

She obtained a three-year degree in Economics, Administration, Control and Corporate Finance from the University of Pavia in July 2023 and she’s currently enrolled in the M.Sc. in Economics and Business Legislation. She joined the Team in 2023 to exploit her economic-administrative skills in managing the Marketing & Administration area. Her skills derive from her passion for the world of communication and social media, which she has been able to cultivate by managing the profile of some holiday homes in Sicily since 2021.

Pietro Abbiati

Coach & Skipper

Graduated from the Teresio and Olivelli Scientific High School of Pavia, and obtained the B.Sc. in Biological Sciences in Pavia, he is attending the M.Sc. in Experimental and Applied Biology. As a child he was passionate about basketball. Since 2017 he started dedicating himself to sailing, and since October 2023 he’s the main Skipper and Coach for the UniPV Sailing Team. Athlete on ILCA 6, he has participated in many Regional, National, European and World regattas. He is currently studying to become a 1st level instructor at FIV.

Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial and Information Engineering of the University of Pavia, he is the holder of the Applied Mechanics and Machine Design courses. Member of the RAMSLAB (Research on Advanced Mechanical System) laboratory, he coordinates the Team’s activities, providing technical and logistical support for the management of the main activities and promoting relationships with the industrial world and with the teachers of the various University Departments. His research activity mainly focuses on the dynamics, control and diagnostics of mechanical systems and the automation of industrial systems.

PhD in Design, Modeling and Simulation in Engineering and research fellow at the DICAr of the University of Pavia. She graduated in Architecture in July 2018 from the University of Florence and obtained her professional qualification in February 2019. After graduating she began working as a tutor, and then she has carried out research in the field of landscape architectural heritage documentation, dealing with the census of architectural and territorial contexts and the processing of digital databases. Since April 2019 he has collaborated with the experimental educational research laboratory DAda-LAB of the DICAr, actively participating in national and international scientific research projects. As a young researcher at UniPV, she is involved in European Projects on the development of strategies for the documentation, digitization and valorisation of Cultural Heritage, dealing in particular with the production of documentary corpuses and digital archives and the study of management systems on an architectural and landscape scale.

Graduated from Falcone Borsellino high school in Arese, currently a first-year student in Industrial Engineering at Pavia. He is passionate about motorsports. He has decided to join the Team to challenge himself with a new experience, which would allow him to experiment with teamwork and apply theoretical study to practical work.

Industrial Engineer, he’s completing his Master’s in Industrial Automation Engineering. He coordinates the research in the materials field, with particular reference to the topic of sustainability. He studied methods for the creation of composites, interacting with some companies in the sector. Then, he applied those skills in the production of our first boat, Svelta. He is also interested in additive manufacturing, with particular attention to new deposition processes with continuous fiber reinforcement, a new frontier in the industrial production of both prototypes and finished products with improved mechanical properties.

Niccolò Bazzaro

Graduated in High School as an Electronic Expert, he’s obtained the C1 level certification in English and now he is attending the B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering at the University of Pavia. As a sports lover, over the years he has practiced various disciplines, in particular tennis and the gym. During the 2nd year of academic studies he joined the UniPV Sailing Team with the aim of expanding his skills in technical drawing and team working. In his free time he dedicates himself to digital drawing, fitness and DIY. Passionate about motors, travel and photography, he combines his passions by attending sporting events.

Alberto Cuccurullo

Graduated from the Giacomo Feltrinelli State Industrial Technical Institute in Milan, he attended the B.Sc. in Mechanical Industrial Engineering. He has always been passionate about the car/motorcycle sector, mechanical watchmaking and cooking and has attended some amateur courses at the Cingoli laboratory. In the past he has competed in the 60, 100 and 400 m dash disciplines, and nowadays he swims at a pre-competitive level with the aim of competing in the future.

He is currently enrolled in the faculty of Mechanical Industrial Engineering at the University of Pavia. He graduated in High School from the Aeronautical Institute. His passion for the world of aeronautics, in particular for fluid dynamics, led him to invest his time in the UniPV Sailing Team, actively contributing to the CFD analysis. This experience will be fundamental to apply his studies in a practical and challenging context, honing hisskills and building a solid foundation for his future in the field of aeronautics and mechanical engineering.

Gabriele Battisti

Currently attending the B.Sc. in Mathematics at the University of Pavia. After graduating from Liceo Classico, he decided to undertake a theoretical mathematical path in order to be able to contribute to the innovation that is happening in our era and to be able to work in teams made up of personalities with different instructions. Since he was a child he had a great passion for sailing, also practicing regattas in the lakes of the Aosta Valley, the region where he was born.

Jacopo Pinelli

He is attending the 1st year of Harvey Medicine and Surgery course at the University of Pavia. He sails since he was 6 years old in Albenga, Liguria, then moved to Verazze Club Nautico to continue sailing in the Optimist class until 2018. After switching class to ILCA 4 then ILCA 6 he kept partecipating in National, Europans and World championships. He is a FIV assistant instructor for summer sailing clubs in Liguria.

Leon Przybyszewski

Graduated from IB 1531 high school. Studying Medicine and Surgery in University of Pavia Harvey Course. He’s passionate about sailing. Sailed on Optimist, and in 2021 dedicated himself to 420 class. Attended plenty of national and international regattas including Junior European championship. Currently training to become a sailing referee.

Riccardo Bianchetti

He graduated from the Giorgio Spezia scientific high school in Domodossola. He is currently attending a B.Sc. in industrial engineering with a specialization in mechanics at the University of Pavia. Since he was a child, he has always had a strong attraction towards all mechanical subjects, trying to understand how they work. In his first year of university he heard about the UniPV Sailing Team. This opportunity is very interesting for self-growth. In the team he focuses on CAD drawings, thanks to knowledge already acquired during a period of work in a technical office.

Graduated in Electrical Engineering at the Polytechnic of Milan, he has been a researcher at the Department of Industrial and Information Engineering since October 2022. Since last year he has helped coordinate the Team’s activities, happily combining his passion for sailing with the UniPV Sailing Team project.

Isabel Descalzi

Graduated from Edoardo Amaldi Scientific High School in Novi Ligure (Sports Specialization), she is currently attending her B.Sc. in Biological Sciences. Since her early youth she has always been a great lover of sports and, during her growth, she practiced several of them. For 11 years she participated in national and international tennis tournaments at a competitive level and still practices it today. Her other passions are animals, being immersed in nature and art. She decided to join the Materials Team of the Sailing Team in her 2nd year of academic studies because she is a hard worker, she wants to learn about the world of water sports and to get involved not only with herself, but also with others.

From Villadossola, she is graduated at Liceo Scientifico Bilingue in Verbania. She is now attending the B. Sc. in Industrial Engineering at the University of Pavia. She has decided to join the Team to learn new skills. In her free time she likes to play the saxophone and go hiking.

Graduating from Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa Scientific High School near Varese, he pursued a B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering in Pavia. During his second year of studies, he joined the UniPV Sailing Team, seeking to apply his knowledge and challenge himself. In his spare time, he practices calisthenics, enjoys running, and indulges in climbing.

Laura Cantatore

She is attending the 2nd year of Medicine and Surgery in Pavia. She started sailing at the age of 7, rapidly passing in Optimist. At 13, she moved to the Class 420 of Adriaco Yacht Club competitive team, in Trieste, participating, over the next five years, in national and international competitions. In the 2023 SuMoth Challenge she contributed to the development of the boat. She is an FIV Sailing Assistant Instructor, with teaching experience at the Sailing Schools of various Clubs. Finally, she is completing the attendance of the federal courses necessary to obtain the Level I Instructor patent.

Samuel Lipari

Currently enrolled in the B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Pavia, he joined the UniPV Sailing Team during his second academic year to broaden his skills in technical design and teamwork. Outside of academic studies, he shows a deep-rooted passion for engines and mechanics. Aiming to apply his academic knowledge in practical settings, he aspires to leverage his studies in Industrial Engineering to contribute to the Team’s success.

Daniela dell’Olio

Graduated from Liceo Scientifico in Andria, she is attending a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences. Since she was a child she has always loved the sea and everything related to it. Thanks to her High School, she was able to take basic sailing courses; among this, she has many passions: photography, art and social media stand out.

Graduated in Automation Industrial Engineering and PhD student in Computer and Electronic Engineering at the University of Pavia, he is the founder of the UniPV Sailing Team. Curious, full of interests but with his feet firmly planted on the ground, he loves the sea and the mountains. At the end of the first year he developed the idea of being able to combine his ongoing studies with his passion for sport sailing and therefore proposed founding a Sailing Team at the University of Pavia similar to those present in other universities. He held the position of Team Leader of the UniPV Sailing Team project until July 2023, coordinating the research and development activities to launch the first UniPV Moth, Svelta. Nowadays, he keeps on helping the Team at a logistic level.

Graduated from the Copernico Liceo Scientifico in Pavia, he undertook the B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering, quickly demonstrating commitment and an innate passion for Engineering. Since he was a child, his great passions have been boats and the sea. At the end of his 1st Academic Year he found out the UniPV Sailing Team, where he focused himself on CAD drawing. Recently, he also obtained sailing and motor nautical license. In his free time, he runs, preparing for the Paris marathon, rides bikes and cooks..

Lorenzo Liberali

From Mornico Losana, he’s graduated at Liceo Scientifico Tecnologico in Broni. He’s now completing his B.Sc. in Mechanical Industrial Engineering and he has joined UniPV Sailing Team during early 2022. He started with a generic role, working on the foil assembly, but now he is part of the structure equipe. He is interested in scientific subjects and loves driving and testing cars, motorbikes (enduro riding) and sports; he’s a waterpolo player, but he is also passionate with tennis and cycling.

Graduated in “Construction sciences, environment and territory” from Archimede High School in Modica (Sicily), now she’s attending the 1st year of Industrial Engineering at Pavia. Joined the UniPV Sailing Team with the aim of meeting new people and expanding her skills in team working and technical drawing. The target of her study in Industrial Engineering is that to work in the construction of elements and machines for industries.
